It was pointed out to me that this was misquoted; paraphrased by Stephen Hawking, the original statement was made by American historian Daniel J. Boorstin, and (from what I can determine) goes like, “The greatest obstacle to discovering the shape of the earth, the continents, and the oceans was not ignorance, but the illusion of knowledge.”
There are many variations of both the above statements floating about the internet; sorry for any confusion!
I feel like I’m just under the illusion of knowledge.
